SAINT JOHN, NB – The Saint John Riptide are excited to announce the signing of two-time NBL Canada champion Chris Commons for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
Commons, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward, spent most of the season with the Niagara River Lions. The Toledo, Ohio native appeared in 25 games for the River Lions averaging 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Prior to joining Niagara, Commons spent four seasons with the Windsor Express between 2012 and 2016. “We are incredibly excited to be adding such a high quality person and a high quality basketball player to our organization” said Riptide President Scott Van Wart “Chris will be joining the team for our game versus the Niagara River Lions on Sunday and we are excited to see him in a Riptide uniform.”
At the collegiate level, Commons played for the University of Findlay before transferring to the University of South Carolina Aiken where he played in the NCAA Division II and earned all-league honours. After college, Commons joined Al Ittihad in Bahrain, then played with BSV Wulfen in Germany. He would also go on to play in Southeast Asia, Finland, as well as the United States before landing in the National Basketball League of Canada.
